Blink

Blink

Deep code research, straight from Slack or your browser

Overview

What it is

Blink is an open-source agent development engine that lets you build, test, and deploy custom AI agents directly from your terminal. Switch between Edit Mode (where you define your agent's behavior) and Run Mode (where you test it with real tasks) for rapid iteration. Optionally, deploy to Blink Cloud to share your agents via Slack, GitHub, or API endpoints, with full logging, tracing, and usage metrics built in.

Intent

I need it when

Self-host AI agents on company infrastructure for data privacy and control

Blink is open source (AGPLv3 server, MIT SDKs) and deploys agents as Docker containers on user-controlled servers. This allows organizations to maintain full data sovereignty and avoid sending code to third-party services.

Deploy AI agents directly in Slack for code research and complex technical tasks

Blink ships with Scout, a pre-built coding agent that integrates with Slack, GitHub, and web UI. Users can chat with agents in threaded Slack conversations to handle deep code research, investigate issues, and discuss ideas without leaving their team's communication channel.

Build custom AI agents tailored to specific team workflows and tools

Blink provides TypeScript SDK and CLI for building custom agents with pre-built tools for Slack, GitHub, search, and more. Developers can customize the Scout agent or create entirely new agents, then deploy them as Docker containers on their own infrastructure.

Understand complex codebases and get answers backed by code citations

Blink agents can analyze repositories, answer questions about how code works, identify connections between parts, and provide context for unfamiliar codebases. This enables teams to onboard faster and reduce time spent on code exploration.

Monitor and debug agent behavior with full operational visibility

Blink web UI provides logs and traces for all deployed agents, enabling developers to debug operations, monitor performance, and understand agent decision-making in real-time.

Drop

Not a fit when

  • User needs a managed SaaS solution without self-hosting infrastructure requirements
  • Organization lacks Node.js 22+, Docker, and server infrastructure to deploy and maintain Blink
  • User requires drag-and-drop workflow builder instead of code-based agent development
  • Team needs commercial support and SLA guarantees not provided by open source project
  • Use case requires agents outside coding, GitHub, and Slack integrations ecosystem
